Assignment 5

Charles Salter
CAT 200    Assignment 5

For my 5th grade class, I recommend a computer, LCD monitor, a multimedia projector, and a printer. I feel by using these assets, it will be mutually beneficial to our school and the students. The students will have new technology that will greatly assist them in learning new material, while the school will save money by only purchasing a few key items I feel are necessary to teach the class.

The computer I recommend is an HP Pavilion desktop, it comes complete with a dual-core processor, 6 GB of memory, and a 1 TB hard drive. This desktop computer will be especially useful because it contains a built-in wireless LAN connection. The front panel is a 15-in-1 reader, making it easy to transfer photos, music and other files. The computer is accompanied by USB keyboard and an optical mouse. There are 6 USB ports, and a multi-format DVD-RW and CD-RW drive. The computer retails for $499.99.

The monitor I recommend is a 25” HP widescreen, flat-panel LCD monitor. The monitor retails for $199.99. The printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8500A, wireless, all-in-one printer. It has a 4-in-1 functionality, and will print a 35 ppm. The printer retails for $199.99. My last recommendation is a multimedia projector.

The projector is an Epson multimedia projector which comes with a remote and USB cable to plug directly into the computer. The projector only weighs 5.1 pounds making it extremely portable. It projects at 2600 Lumens and 800x600 SVGA resolution. Please consider these technologies for our school’s classroom; I feel everything I have requested will be very beneficial to our school.

Assignment 1

Charles Salter

CAT 200         Assignment 1

I have personally seen technology help impact education a great deal. Technology has not only helped me with certain aspects of learning new material, but has also helped me develop a better sense of understanding about teaching material. Schools and campuses around the world are increasing the use of computers and related technology, and I believe our education system needs to encourage that.

Not only should technologies for teaching be available to college and high school students, but also to middle school and elementary school students. Computers can be integrated into a younger child’s life just as video games are. Having volunteered for Hillcrest Middle School in the past, I think if younger students had some of the available technologies that older students have, grades would rise. Younger students will be more motivated to do work on a computer rather than a piece of paper.

Educational technology is a different type of system used in teaching, whether it is a technique, method, or tool such as a computer. Education technology plays a key role in the development of new ways to teach material, however many factors can contribute to how effective the system being used is. Obviously if a school system is not very financially funded, education technologies will be limited. However, working with technology will allow us to develop a better system of teaching. Education technology can greatly supplement any teaching method.
